After growing up in the sleepy town of Kelowna, Canada, Stephanie realized that she needed to make a change to pursue her dreams of exploring the world and sharing her creativity. In 2013, she moved to Scotland to study English Literature at the University of St Andrews. During her time at St Andrews, Stephanie discovered that her passion for fashion, which she had always
dismissed as a hobby, could actually be a career. After interning at top brands and magazines, Stephanie ultimately entered the world of fashion e-commerce so she could sustain work-life balance. Alongside being a product designer at a top fashion e-commerce company, she draws as a way to unwind and reaffirm a positive body image to both herself and the people she draws.
Starting first with pencil, Stephanie understands the proportions of the model and quickly renders both the pose and form of the model. She adds additional lines where the outlines will becoming thicker from instinct, to give the piece a sense of movement.
Once the pencil is done, Stephanie goes in with a thick black art marker or paint pen. Outlining the lines drawn in pencil, and filling in the areas as shown by her pencil drawing.
Sometimes the drawing finishes at step 2, but often Stephanie adds additional embellishment through coloured lines in paint pen or pencil crayon. Paler colours or neons are preferred, as they complement the outline and do not distract from its strength.
